I called the session there, mostly because the players (and myself) were in hysterics.
Those 8 small beasts trapped the frog, which they picked up and put into a bag of holding. According to RAW, a creature cannot pass through the space of another creature unless it's 2 sizes larger or smaller. The ranger casts Conjure Animals, and summons 8 Small creatures (I dont remember what exactly they were) in a circle around the beholfrog. The frog tries to hop away, but after the beholfrog in initiative is the Ranger. The mighty beholder is polymorphed into a frog. This is part of the 5e System Reference Document. While the warlock beholder does have a hefty +7 to wisdom saves, He only rolled a 9. According to the monster manual, they can only adjust the direction of their Antimagic ray at the start of their turns. That's when I noticed that Beholders don't have legendary resistance. Instead he chose to polymorph the beholder. Originally he intended to polymorph himself into a t-rex or similar, but realized that his spell would be wasted as soon as the beholder looked at him. He decides that he will walk around the beholder, past his antimagic cone, and cast Polymorph.

Using the Collvillian method of Random Encounters, I decided that a 1 would mean the Beholder himself came to the PCs, and a 2 would be an encounter with minions. Not only did they not leave the dungeon, they decided to rest in the middle of the hallway. They fought through most of the Beholder's minions, then decided they were going to take a rest in the dungeon. Give them the opportunity to try out higher level spells and maybe a multiclass that comes online later than they would normally want to level from 1. In order to try to curtail character creation/reroll fatigue, I had the players make level 12 PCs instead of a lower level. Our group of players is currently playing Storm King's Thunder, but the current DM (we rotate between adventures) could not get tonight off work, So I took over and ran a one-shot.
